Well, I just finished my completely unexpected microfiche orders of Adventure Comics (I swear I don't remember ordering them. . . .)

But I am not in a position to complain.

The scales have been dropped from my eyes.

I never thought I would like a Superboy Archive. But I was wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Now I really do hope an Archive is on the horizon for this strip. It would be much better than I thought it would be.

And now I wonder. . . .

What's the hold -up?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I emailed more detailed information, friend.

The ones I got were not the only part of the series from Adventure Comics (#128-137).

Superboy appeared previously in More Fun Comics (#101 was recently reprinted by DC as part of the Millenium editions I believe; I didn't like it so I didn't buy it.)

He also appeared in Adventure Comics from # 103 until the Legion took over the title in 1960's.

So the fiche I read only had some of the earlier adventures.

Could you give some of us deprived readers a sense of what those stories read like--themes, characters, tone.

I think I speak for a number of people that wonder how to get the microfiche. Who do we contact? What would be the cost?

Contact:

MicroComics, Inc.
P.O. Box 243
Ridgewood, NJ 07450

(201) 445-3450 [You can leave a message as I recall]
Fax: (201) 445-2924

The prices of the newest sets have gone up to $38.95. Still a bargain IMO. Older issues of Adventure Comics and More Fun Comics (my two favorite series) are only $35.95 per set of five --which works out to about $7.15 per issue. As far as I know the "cherry-picking" idea is gone and you have to buy in sets of five(5).

Oversized anthology titles like World's Finest and America's Greatest Comics give you the biggest bang for the buck because the earlier issues were larger than their comrades on the stands.

But try the More Fun Comics anyway. You'll thank me later.

I don't have too much time India Ink, but I'll try.

The first one is one I think has been reprinted. It was the "first" meeting between Lois Lane and Clark Kent.

It is a nice little piece of Golden age retconning as Lois meets Clark and falls in love with Superboy at the same time. What I like about it is the charming art on what will feel like a VERY familiar story to Silver Age Superman fans.

Clark's round glasses resemble those worn by Sylvester Pemberton over in Star-Spangled Comics, but the Smallville Superboy is dynamic and well drawn.

The tale ends with Clark and Lois beginning their scoop and counter-scoop relationship about ten years too early. Cute piece.

more later.

Good grief! How many times can two people meet each other for the first time?

I remember reading a reprint of a later story in which Lois comes to Smallville and gives Lana competition for Superboy's lack-of-attentions.

Then in the early '60s there was another one where Lana & Lois meet at summer camp, but the switch here is that Lois keeps helping Superboy conceal his identity from Lana.

The Lois-Superman duo have as many origins as the Superman-Batman team!

As the T.V. version of H.G. Wells told Lois,

". . .Love is blind. . . ."

Maybe Lois just plain forgot meeting Kent the other times!!

My favorite all-time Superman-related line was from the same episode of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.

Tempus: ". . . How galactically STU-pid was she?. . . .[then he uses a pair of glasses to mime Clark changing into Superman a few times, saying] "Mild-mannered reporter. SU-PER-hero! Clark Kent. SU-PERman!!" [pregnant pause] GOT IT?!?!?!"

The look on Lois' face is brilliant. Teri Hatcher is a better actress than she gets credit for, I think.
